About the Event

My ceramic work is wheel thrown and stoneware. Extra clay, tools and glazes are applied to accentuate the piece. Glazes are then used to emphasise the fluidity. My work has an eastern influence, the lines, minimalism and directness common to Japanese ceramics.

My ceramic work is wheel thrown porcelain and stoneware. Extra clay and tools are pushed onto the surface of the pots while the clay is still wet. This helps to accentuate the softness of the clay. Glazes are then used to emphasise the fluidity of the clay. My work has an eastern influence, the clean lines, minimalism and directness that are present in a lot of Japanese ceramics.

I also have a collaborative project with one of my students and fellow potters, Chlose Fineberg. Together we are making a range of ceramics that is decorated in the traditional Italian Majolica technique.

I have taught ceramics for 20 years, mainly in a further and higher education. I presently teach at Wellington adult learning and leisure and as a visiting lecturer at Somerset College of Arts and Technology as well as running courses from my own studio.

I also work in schools, teaching workshops and facilitating community projects.
