Further Info

After I attended pottery course and Somerset College for Art and Technology I became absolutely passionate with making items from clay. I continued over 3 years to attend the adult pottery course and during this time I decided that I really enjoyed the art of handbuilding using coils and slabs of clay without the use of moulds. In addition to attending the courses I obtained numerous books on the subject from the Library and developed my skill at home. Over the past 3 year I have combined this passion of working with clay with my love of animals and produce large ceramic animal sculptures of British wildlife. It takes approximately one week to complete the building of the sculpture. It is then left to dry slightly before applying underglazes and metal oxides. It must be bone dry to fire and this drying process takes another 2-3 weeks depending on its size. It is then fired in an electric kiln to 1200 degrees centigrade. The firing process takes approximately 11 hours. Since each piece is entirely hand built no two pieces will be the same.
