About the Event

Further Info

Rachel Jennings trained as a weaver at Chelsea College of Art, but now uses papermaking and textile techniques to create one-off pieces which cross the boundaries between textiles, paper and printmaking. All her paper is handmade and coloured using various natural and synthetic materials, including cotton, tea, spices and onion skins. Her newest work has grown out of a fascination with sacred imagery, from Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Abbey and the Chalice Well, with accompanying words from folk songs, poems and Celtic blessings. Earlier pieces intimate nature’s part in the sacred cycle, celebrating sky, earth, water, sun and moon in variously textured handmade papers and fragments of poetry.

Rachel moved to Frome 10 years ago, and now exhibits regularly in the South West. For two years running she was an Award winner in the Enigma Awards in Frome (2003 Textiles, 2004 2-D), and in 2004 won the Blue Lias Gallery Prize in Lyme Regis Arts Festival. Rachel has recently been accepted as a full member of the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen, and is also Exhibitions Officer for PaperWeight, a national group of artists working with paper.
